Event Description

What’s the best way to prepare for an upcoming Passover seder? Why it’s loading up on chametz the week before! And there is no finer way to celebrate and savor leavened bread than with a community challah bake! Join Bread & Blosssom baker Sonya Raab, who will lead the group step-by-step through her challah recipe, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. At the end of the workshop, you will have your very own braided challah loaf that will be fully-proofed and ready to bake in your oven at home. While your dough is rising, Sonya will offer a sourdough demonstration and provide the group with samples of her famous sourdough loaves for taste and for sale. There will also be a game table for kids. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Open to all ages, genders, and baking abilities. Any children participating must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Discover or rekindle the special magic of baking in community! Kindly register by April 12th.

About Sonya Raab: Bread and Blossom was founded in April of 2020…accidentally. A skiing injury left Sonya with few of the ligaments in her knee still intact. She became tethered to her apartment during lockdown with nothing to do but physical therapy and having staring contests with her cat. She barely knew how to bake but always had a dream of making sourdough. When else would she have such an opportunity to face my sourdough fears? She practiced and practiced, pushing her bread on lots of people. Later in the spring she tested out selling dips, sauces, and dressings at the Jackson People’s Market. The day before the first market she decided to bring along a couple loaves of bread. She was sold out of everything she brought within the first hour. From then on, she knew she was in business.

Sonya’s goal is to nourish people with organic locally sourced food that is made with love. She wants to teach people about eating locally and how to source food ethically. It gives Sonya great pleasure to know that after a day at the market many people are eating and sharing the food that she poured her heart and soul into. Bread and Blossom has relocated to Portland, ME! Starting in mid-May, Sonya will be at a variety of Farmer’s Markets. Schedule coming soon.
